Hey! We are Yukizuna Judo Club.
Our story
Mellieha Judo Club was created in 2016 by Sensei Serge with a vision to create a welcoming place to discover the art of Judo. He believed in the transformative power of Judo, not just as a martial art and sport, but as a way to develop character, discipline, and respect.
Starting with a small group of dedicated students, the club slowly grew, and Sensei Serge had to leave Malta. He then decided to hand over the keys to Sensei David who, during the pandemic, did his best to keep judo alive in Mellieha and attract more young judokas.
This is in 2022, Sensei Nico joined the club as a simple member later joined by Yetta and Fernando who then, formed the adult group.
By the end of 2023, a club which started as a hobby project was a community of 40 judokas judokas. It seriously needed structuration and more man power. Thus, in 2024, David, Nico and Yetta teamed up to form the first Executive Committee of Yukizuna Judo Club.
After more than a year of structuration, development and hard work with Maltese Authorities, Yukizuna Judo Club was officially affiliated with the Malta Judo Federation in January 2025. At the time, the club counted 79 registered members for 64 active.
Today, Yukizuna Judo Club continues to thrive, offering Judo instruction to students of all ages and skill levels. We look forward to continuing to grow and share the benefits of Judo with the Mellieħa community for many years to come.
