Health and Safety Policy
1. Purpose
This document establishes the Judo Club's commitment to a proactive and comprehensive approach to health and safety, prioritizing the well-being of all members, coaches, guests, and staff participating in its activities.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all individuals engaged in Judo Club activities, encompassing:
- Members of all ages and skill levels
- Certified coaches and instructors
- Volunteers and administrative staff
- Guests and spectators
3. Roles and Responsibilities
3.1 Club Management
- Develop, implement, and maintain this Health and Safety Policy.
- Conduct regular risk assessments of the Dojo and training activities utilizing Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Control (HIRARC) methodology.
- Procure and maintain Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) aligned with best practices and relevant National Governing Body (NGB) guidelines.
- Ensure adequate First-Aid supplies are readily available and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) or equivalent are present during training sessions.
- Investigate and document all reported incidents and injuries following established procedures.
- Conduct annual reviews and revise this policy as necessary to reflect evolving regulations and best practices.
3.2 Coaches and Instructors
- Deliver training sessions adhering to safe practices outlined in NGB guidelines and International Judo Federation (IJF) regulations.
- Implement Dynamic Warming-up and Static Cool-down protocols for injury prevention.
- Monitor participants for signs of fatigue, injury, or potential hazards utilizing Dynamic Risk Assessment techniques.
- Enforce established safety rules and promote positive training culture emphasizing respect and sportsmanship.
- Report any safety concerns, incidents, or near misses to Club Management promptly.
3.3 Members
- Adhere strictly to instructions and safety rules provided by coaches and instructors.
- Inform coaches of any pre-existing medical conditions or injuries before participating.
- Wear appropriate training attire (Gi) in good condition and utilize designated PPE as required.
- Practice good sportsmanship and maintain respectful conduct towards all participants.
- Report any hazards, unsafe conditions, or concerns to coaches or Club Management immediately.
3.4 First-Aiders
- Maintain current certifications and ensure first-aid kits are stocked and readily accessible.
- Provide initial treatment for minor injuries following established protocols.
- Assess the need for further medical attention and activate emergency services if necessary.
- Document all injuries using designated reporting forms for record-keeping purposes.
4. Policy Statements and Procedures
- All training sessions will commence with a thorough warm-up and conclude with a proper cool-down.
- Appropriate Gi attire in good condition is mandatory for all participants.
- Specific training drills and competitions may necessitate mandatory use of additional PPE (mouthguards, groin guards).
- Throwing techniques will be practiced progressively based on individual skill level and experience.
- Unruly or unsafe behavior will not be tolerated and may result in disciplinary action as per Club regulations.
- Regular inspections of equipment, mats, and Dojo facilities will be conducted to ensure safety and functionality.
- Emergency procedures will be clearly communicated, displayed in the Dojo, and readily accessible to all individuals.
- Incident reporting forms will be readily available for documenting injuries, near misses, and safety concerns.
5. Exceptions and Deviations
Deviations from this policy require pre-approval by Club Management based on a demonstrably valid reason and a documented risk assessment. All exceptions will be communicated to relevant parties involved.

7. Review and Update
